Employer: Pakistan Children and Youth Forum

Objectives

Project Objectives:

  • To demonstrate the power of the XO laptops in the government and Private sector schools in the impoverished areas of south Punjab.
  • To equip the orphan children of SOS Children's Village Multan with he means to interact among themselves and the world at large and to help them increase their computer literacy rate.

Plan of Action

We plan to hold seminars on OLPC and its role in teaching. This will happen simultaneously with us equipping the SOS Chilren's Village Multan as a model center.

Needs

The children in the SOS Children's Village Multan are very bright and industrious, but they lack sufficient access to computers and internet. There is a limited number of PCs available and their sole training consists of lectures given once in a while by local volunteers. There is a desperate need to bridge the digital divide that exists between these children and their regular classmates. Locally, This project will be a test project for the greater network of SOS Children's Villages all over Pakistan. Deploying such a project would allow children to both learn and communicate with each other in a better way. We need the current requested number to help us showcase the laptops to our investors and the teachers and administration in SOS Children's Village. As is evident, we will be showcasing both software and hardware of the laptop so this cannot be done in emulation. The four laptops requested will be distributed to our team, one for each person with the fourth laptop given to the person we are demonstrating it to. We will not consider damaged or salvaged laptops.

Sharing Deliverables

The Project progress will be shown at the Project Anashrah Journal A local wiki wll also be set up at the primary site of teaching.

We plan to develop more software textbooks for our students, which will be available to everyone, all over the world.

Quality/Mentoring

Any guidance that we can get in implementing the project will be immensely appreciated.
