Student Technology Outreach (STOC) is a student organization at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) that focuses on helping Pittsburgh area non-profits with technology related problems. Starting in the fall of 2008, it also develops Activities for OLPC.

Activity Development

STOC has started a software development program that focuses on developing educational Activities for Sugar and OLPC XOs. There are currently 6-10 interested students who have development environments set up and are learning Python and how to develop for Sugar. The club currently has access to 3 XOs permanently and 2 more that can be borrowed for short periods of time. This is unlikely to be a bottleneck until heavier development begins.

Bridge

Bridge is one of the two initial Activity projects. The goal is to take the fun little buggy game and turn it into a full fun educational game that is stable enough for deployment.

Panorama

Panorama is the second project, with similar goals.

Schedule

The remainder of the fall 2008 semester will be spent getting new members acquainted with the development environment. Activity development in earnest will begin in the spring 2009 semester. It will begin with fixing the Bridge and Panorama Activities, and then spread to new Activity development.

Meetings are held in Wean 5320 at CMU from 12:00 to 3:00 on Sundays.
