I'm not convinced that alphabetical organisation is the best route.

I would suggest the tree of knowledge/categories approach.

The wikipedia main page has links to

• Arts
• Biography
• Geography
• History
• Mathematics
• Science
• Society
• Technology
• All portals

I would include links to Random Article and Help here and perhaps a school portal too.
