You should think about something along the lines of the Graphing Calculator, originally made for Mac OS9. It was a really good way to immediately see how changes to an equation affected a graph in 3 dimensions. Here.

Seconded. The descendant for Mac OS X has been included in the Utilities folder since 10.4: Grapher.app --IanOsgood 21:47, 29 January 2008 (EST)
