Educational technologist, specialised in M-learning (mobile learning), open source software and sustainability.

In 2007 he started to promote OLPC. In December 2007 he became an active member of OLPC NL. When the first OLPC projects started he founded the foundation, specialised in OLPC projects. Not only for getting funds but also to provide professional support for the OLPC projects for several years. Education needs evolution, not revolution. In 2010 this foundation already supports many schools in 10 countries around the world.

Since 2005 he has his own small company (= Knowledge broker). Via several websites he offers specialised knowledge, hardware, (open source) software and (open) content: (= services around mobile devices like electronic paper) (= services around an open source electronic learning environment)

Untill the first of Januar 2008 he was project manager and educational technologist at the Open University of the Netherlands ( ). Responsible for several commercial blended learning projects in profit and non-profit organisations in the Netherlands. In 2001 he was one of the founders of the high-tech centre LEX, the learning experience ( ).

Before joining the OU NL in 2001 he was senior projectmanager for the Expertisecentre ICT ( ), the link between business and educational institutes.

From the end of 1999 until 2001 he was Manager Academic Services in the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU, ).

Until he joined EADTU in November 1999 he has worked as assistant projectmanager for “Gilde-HBO”, a new combination of higher education and working in a relevant job: concurrent education. This project was coordinated by the polytechnic of the Hague. /

From 1988 until 1998 he was teacher of physics and ICT at a secondary school in the Hague, HML, who uses the Montessori method. Already in 1995 he was using the internet and a year later Active Worlds (3D World).

He studied Physics and Biology (professional education) in Utrecht and Educational Sciences in Leiden and is fluent in Dutch, English and German.

Frits is volunteer in several organisations: OLPC NL LOSS = platform in Limbourg for Open source software, open standards and other open innovations (content, lines, etc). Frits is member of the board. Jong Leren = network of public primary schools in Limbourg. Frits is member of the board. GroenLinks = political party, left oriented. Frits is advisor for Limbourg. Simple Living = foundation for sustainable lifestyle. Frits was member of the board. NVO2 = the main network in the Netherlands for people who work in training and development. Frits was founder and coordinator of the workgroup Province of Limbourg. MKMG = Maastricht knowledge management group: 65 organisations working with knowledge management. Frits was member of the board.
