Hello! I'm Nikki, and I am working with Jessi to get the OLPC artist's community up and running. What kind of art are you most interested in doing, and what kind of art are you most experienced with (and what do you want to learn?)? Hit my talk page or email me and tell me what you're interested in doing!

video

Hi! There is lots of Video of the OLPC. But there is no one video I would point to as an introduction for educators. Or for anyone else, but educators seems a good target, as the Educators page is being worked on, as a prelude to trying to attract more educators. Here is sort of what I had imagined: Start a page, or just work here, creating an interesting video snippet (or whatever it's called) list. Hmm, or even actual clips. Take a look at some of the videos. The ones in the recommended section have some good stuff, usually at the beginning. And start pulling together compilation clips of perhaps "kids using xo's", and "folks explaining the motivation and educational approach of olpc". Hmm, though smaller clips could be interesting to, like "kids teaching each other to use the xo". I'm thinking the right thing is the 20% effort that gets 80% of the payoff, rather than polished. Or 10%/50%. There will be a continuing stream of new video, so it would be great to set things up so it is easy to say "oooh, this morning there's an awesome new clip of kids teaching each other how to use the xo. Let's add it in, or swap it in for our current one." So I guess two objectives. A little something for educators. And the start of a general resource for creating such video segments. I'm usually on irc #olpc-content. I'd love to hear your thoughts. MitchellNCharity 09:38, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

Re xo usage in the Brazil clips, note the trial-1 schools had/have rather rudimentary old versions of the software. Ie, most of the collaboration stuff wasn't working yet. It's just being finished up now for trial-2. MitchellNCharity 17:42, 8 July 2007 (EDT)

Hello. In response to your request sent by email from my talk page, I would certainly love to see the art work you have done for TamTam. you can send email to jean at piche.com -- thanks.. ethrop

Review Squad

Would you and Eduardo be interested in working on the Review Squad logo? --Nikki 17:40, 16 July 2007 (EDT)

Basic info is posted at Art Wanted (you should probably sign up there too), you can also ask Mel for more info. --Nikki 19:00, 16 July 2007 (EDT)

Hi, I haven't got anything on this so far, since I was off-line/off-computer for a while, but I will definitively start thinking about this. In the next few days I'll place something in my wiki usepage, and warn you about it. What about you, do you have any ideas? Do you know when the time-frame for this is?HoboPrimate 18:55, 20 July 2007 (EDT)

Hi again! I see that you've started playing with ideas! See my userpage for an idea I had for the logo. HoboPrimate 20:42, 31 July 2007 (EDT)

I might as well put my idea here, so it doesn't get lost:

My initial thought is that it resembles a tag, I have some thoughts on this, possibly mixing with the U.I. way above.

Yes, that's it! Re: more info on Summer of Content

Sure thing - what in particular would you like to know? If you could do me a favor and add your questions to the talk page, I'll answer them there so that others can benefit from your questions as well. Here's the link for easy posting. Thanks - looking forward to hearing your ideas! Mchua 19:18, 18 July 2007 (EDT)

Review Squad icon

Ah, review squad icon! Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you on this, Meredith. In a nutshell, I'm looking for a simple, 1 or 2 color vector icon (such as the orange "1", green "laptop," blue "arrow," and pink "xo" that http://laptop.org uses) that can stand in for Review squad member (a kid who's reviewing, contributing, adding-to, etc. OLPC content).

Once that icon is made, we can do things like make badges for the kids to put on their websites, make a neat banner for the main Review squad wikipage so it looks more visually appealing, and so on. Does that help answer some of your questions? I'm usually on #olpc-content, so feel free to catch me on there if you'd like to have a slightly faster conversation than ones on wiki talk pages. :)

re: review squad icon ii

Ooh, cute. the tiny beak is great, and the eyes much more friendly. (and the "meet here to review" ui idea is very interesting - should tinker more with that.) I think the current and stylized designs would make awesome decorations on webpages & such - but for the base icon, I think we need to go simpler yet. imagine displaying them as tiny icons (think... oh, 25x25px) in b&w - can you make an ubersimple version with solid-color feet and really simple eyes (no lids) that are still friendly looking? Maybe move the pupils to one side of the eyeball.

Thanks again for your patience - this is great work. I think one or two more rounds ought to do it :) Mchua 12:14, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

My two cents? Something along the lines of the 'meet here' simplified icon would probably make a great base icon, with a little tweaking to polish it up. I like the concept, but I do agree with Mel on the simplicity. OLPC and the XO have a rather distinct visual style, and while we don't want everyone to be an exact copy of the original artist, it's nice when things flow, visually. This icon would probably pop up next to the main OLPC logo, so fewer colors (<=2) and fairly simplistic lineart (which is generally the hardest kind :) ) are a plus.
