If you have a broken XO laptop and need to figure out what the problem is, start here. |
* If your laptop doesn't provide you with the Sugar interface, or if you think the problem is with the physical machine rather than the software, you are looking for XO Troubleshooting Guide (Hardware Problem Diagnosis). |

* If the problem occurs when Sugar or an Activity is running, or you think the problem is in software, there is currently a lack of documentation, other than the Wifi Troubleshooting Guide. You might also want to check the XO Troubleshooting Guide. |

A community effort is underway to figure out an infrastructure for grassroots-run repair centers (because OLPC does not have the time or resources to manage thousands of repair centers on their own, and we're all about local collaboration and empowerment around here). See Repair centers for more information, including how to help. (The Disassembly page provides many photos summarizing the challenging process of safely taking apart your XO laptop.) |

A list of interested groups that want to form repair centers is listed here. The repair center program has not started yet! There isn't yet a worked-out way to get parts out easily to grassroots groups. However, while waiting for a supply-chain solution to emerge, plenty of other planning, collaboration, and resource creation is going on in the meantime. Grassroots organizers or Community Repair Centers are strongly encouraged to list their groups on that page and discuss their plans and share their successes on the grassroots mailing list. |

OLPC is working on making spare parts available to volunteer repair centers, XO owners, and the general grassroots community. We have some initial data from repair centers on what parts are used/needed - see http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pLRFS4t4wk4dVwTjInokIRg&output=html. Note that not all XO parts will be made available for individual purchase. The next step is working with Brightstar on parts pricing. We will try to post updates as they become available. |

A number of support avenues are available: |
== How You Can Help. And Meet Others who will Support You == |
* Send mail to , |
* Assist with the Repair centers effort - information on how to help with that specific effort is posted on their page. |
* Visit the live help chat, staffed by volunteers |
* Fix laptops in your area, and document the fixes on this wiki in the Repairs cookbook. Make tutorials and walkthroughs on how to replace damaged parts, what you can substitute for a lost charger, and whatever things you might encounter. |
* Join the Support gang crew of volunteers, |
* If you have time to devote towards this, join Support gang and help field calls and emails from people who have no local repair options. |
* Peruse known bugs in our bug-tracking system. |
* Email < holt AT laptop DOT org > your phone number, to discuss your plans! Include a basic outline of your repair center proposal, and which business model(s) and/or volunteering model(s) you are considering towards sustainability. Be sure to include all the best times of the week when you want OLPC to call you back. OLPC will support all reasonable plans/suggestions, as long as they are thought out. |
* Grassroots organizers of Community Repair Centers are strongly encouraged to discuss their plans and share their successes on the repairs mailing list and grassroots mailing list. |
* Share your ideas and thoughts on repair on the talk page. |

If you received your laptop through your school, your school will usually have a different repair system in place. Use it! |
These are relatively easy repairs that can be done with low effort and little equipment. Some simple repair guidelines and tools suggestions can be found at How to start a repair center. |

If you know what part is broken and just need to learn how to take your XO laptop apart to get to it, check out the excellent Disassembly tutorials. |
The most commonly done and easiest disassembly-based repairs can be found in Simple repairs. |
A guide to screws is available. |

If you need spare parts to replace broken parts in your XO laptop, see Spare parts. |

For folks who just can't wait and don't have a way of fixing things community-style, some suggestions are below. Note that this list (and indeed, this entire wiki page) is a community generated resource with suggestions, and inclusion of businesses on this list does not mean that they are partnered with, endorsed by, or otherwise have any kind of relationship with OLPC. |
