There are about 2,925,000 primary students (7~12 years old) in South Korea (Dec.2006). we hope to distribute OLPC national-wide from 2009, but for 2008' only some of them will receive their OLPCs. See School list for detailed information about schools in South Korea (Korean character).

Summary of primary Schools in South Korea

For full information, visit here and click the Excel file attached.

  • At the end of 2006', there are 6,280 primary schools, 3,925,043 students, 127,161

classes, 28,708 office workers and 163,645 teachers. We estimate there should be an extra OLPC per 500 children and per 100 teachers. So, we need (3,925,043 x 100.5% = ) 3,948,669 OLPC(hild)s at minimum, and (28,708 + 163,645 = 192,353) x 101%= 211,589 OLPC(itizen)s. For approximation, we need 4 million OLPCs for primary school children and 212,000 OLPCs for teachers/office workers.

  • As this OLPC wiki estimates one server per 100 OLPCs, we may need 39,200 servers. However, there are some schools whose students are less than 100, a little more servers more will be needed, maybe 40,000 servers.
  • Estimated budget: 477.44 million dollars at minimum

Subtotal: 475 million dollars at minimum for primary school children's machines.
