My name is [http://www.mirwin.net Michael Burns] and I am a Support Gang volunteer for OLPC.
Michael Burns is a Computer Science student at Oregon State University. He is working for the Network Engineering Team and is focused on Network Security and distributed systems. Some of the areas I volunteer in with OLPC are:
For the $100 laptop, Michael is keenly interested in the efficiency of largescale deployment of 802.11s, distributed network services and building service discovery without the presense of a traditional network infrastructure. He regularly follows the Networking@ Security@ Sugar@ and OLPC-Dev@ mailing lists.
* Run the [http://olpc.osuosl.org/ Community Support Forum]. Mostly that means I tweak CSS, backup the database and pick neat extensions to help make the forum awesome-er.
* Helping get up and running the OLPCZine website, (with lots of help from the [http://osuosl.org/ Open Source Lab] using Drupal as a basis. The site will feature weekly Zine content as well as multi-user blogs for coordinators, volunteers and content creators and the like to document all the great stuff they are doing in OLPC space.
* Previously participated in the Google Summer of Code 2007 with OLPC
* Coordinated with the OSL and Real, Inc. to create a multimedia player project, [http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Helix_media_activity Watch & Listen]. This development was spear-headed by [http://jirwin.net Justin Gallardo] and the rest of the team at the OSL.
* Work for the [http://osel.oregonstate.edu/ Open Source Education Lab] to advocate Open Source development in academia.

My name is Michael Burns and I am a Support Gang volunteer for OLPC.

  • Run the Community Support Forum. Mostly that means I tweak CSS, backup the database and pick neat extensions to help make the forum awesome-er.
  • Helping get up and running the OLPCZine website, (with lots of help from the Open Source Lab using Drupal as a basis. The site will feature weekly Zine content as well as multi-user blogs for coordinators, volunteers and content creators and the like to document all the great stuff they are doing in OLPC space.
