I am a volunteer for [http://www.kasiisiproject.org/ The Kasiisi Project] in Uganda and the [http://www.digiliteracy.org Digital Literacy Project] in the Boston area. Outside of the OLPC world, I study civil engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA, USA).

Our team is applying to send 100 laptops to a school through OLPCorps Africa.
We would work closely with the school's director and teachers to choose e-books, learning games, and websites which are good for the students to work with.

If our application is accepted, we will work at the school from June to August. We can help with power and Internet access.

Uganda was awesome! It was great to teach and program in the field.


I taught an environmental sensing and maps class with The Kasiisi Project near Fort Portal, Uganda. The mission statement of the class became "[[User:Ndoiron/Out Of The Box|Out of the Box]]" because not only were we trying new ways of learning, we were connecting our XOs with the world around us, outside the "box" of the laptop. * The computer weighs as much as a textbook
* The screen is easy to read, inside or outside
* Computers connect to each other or the Internet by WiFi radio


* Bug fixes and keyboard interactions for Map and OfflineMap. Students had trouble with the mouse and sharing maps.
More than 700,000 students around the world are getting these as their first computers.
