Features in activities for 11.2.0
Time for new features: 10 weeks
Read
- Add text files support
- Add text to speech support to the different backends (pdf, epub, text) when possible.
(1/2 weeks)
- Poppler support text to speech in version 0.16, Fedora 14 have version 0.14
See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCsB1oI4Dlk
- The evince developers say the TOC support is not in the python bindings, c code is in ev-sidebar-links.c in the shell directory
The struct is EvDocumentLinks. (see ev-document-links.c). They have problems to expose ExMapping in gi (jaliste and danigm in #evince)
Ideas:
- Add a option to export all the highlighted text to a file.
- See how is doing fbreader to create a TOC from a Gutenberg text file.
- Better spanish voices http://forja.guadalinex.org/frs/?group_id=21
Library
- Create a activity / view to manage (download / view / share / tag / remove) bundles and books
- Add a “Move to Library” option in the menu of content bundles and PDFs in the Journal
- Add support to more OPDS sources
(3 weeks)
- There are some differences in opinion around how sugar should support content -- it's probably worth digging up the old discussions. Myself and some others feel that Sugar should have content support at its core, rather than as an activity. The brief description of the library activity above seems to be very close to the functionality of the journal. Here are some design notes we came up with a while back: http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Features/Content_support#Accessing_content_from_home_screen -DanielDrake 16:52, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- We need to check if is possible start a activity from another, when we need start to Read one book selected in the Library
Record
- Rework the UI
(2 weeks)
- Recent builds include a new version of Record with a totally rewritten UI. The work is complete. It is working OK for me and nobody has reported any bugs. So there's no need to wait before jumping in and porting it to the new toolbars (I assume that's what this work item is about). -DanielDrake 16:59, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Add/Remove Activities
- We need define what new activities can be included.
A first review I did is here http://wiki.laptop.org/go/User:Godiard/Activities_for_F14#Interesting_Activities_in_ASLO but we need feedback from people with pedagogical / selling perspective.
General
- New toolbar in all the activities
Simple: Typing Turtle, Words, StopWatch, Help, Jukebox, Distance, InfoSlicer, Record, Maze, GetBooks, Finance, Complex: Memorize, TamTam*, Paint, Colors
(3/4 weeks)
Translations
- Have the L11N infrastructure right, and do a call to translators, and communicate / promote / give credit properly.
- Define a time lapse to translations in our plans. (Probably we can use M4 and M5)
