Community repair centers
A community effort is underway to figure out an infrastructure for grassroots-run repair centers (because OLPC does not have the time or resources to manage thousands of repair centers on their own, and we're all about local collaboration and empowerment around here).
A list of interested groups that want to form repair centers is listed here. The repair center program has not started yet! There isn't yet a worked-out way to get parts out easily to grassroots groups. However, while waiting for a supply-chain solution to emerge, plenty of other planning, collaboration, and resource creation is going on in the meantime. Grassroots organizers or Community Repair Centers are strongly encouraged to list their groups on that page and discuss their plans and share their successes on the grassroots mailing list.
How you can help
- Assist with the Repair centers effort - information on how to help with that specific effort is posted on their page.
- Fix laptops in your area, and document the fixes on this wiki. Make tutorials and walkthroughs on how to replace damaged parts, what you can substitute for a lost charger, and whatever things you might encounter.
- If you have a lot of time to devote towards this, join Support gang and help field calls and emails from people who have no local repair options.
- Share your ideas and thoughts on repair on the talk page.
Commercial Repair Options
For folks who just can't wait and don't have a way of fixing things community-style, some suggestions are below. Note that this list (and indeed, this entire wiki page) is a community generated resource with suggestions, and inclusion of businesses on this list does not mean that they are partnered with, endorsed by, or otherwise have any kind of relationship with OLPC.
