livecd plans?
The top of my todo list for this afternoon is:
- creating a mutant version of j5's livecd by adding the olpc library. This would become the recommended target for visitors wishing to taste sugar using a livecd (vs livecd, "Web" doesn't "file not found", and can browse without network working; vs .img below, no qemu install needed).
- attempt to create a .img for qemu from that .iso. This would become the recommended target for visitors wishing to taste sugar using qemu (vs .iso, is writable, so it serves as a "virtual xo"). This would also be a development alternative (vs livecd, it's persitent; vs xo disk images, hardware works; vs coderanger's big fc6, it's not 6GB).
I was kind of surprised they didn't exist yet. But I notice you are currently working on automating livecd generation. It would be great if these steps were automatic, rather than a manual bag on the side. Do you have any plans in that direction? Or any other thoughts on the task? Thanks. Hi Mitchell,
(as discussed on IRC):
the name livecd was a bit misleading, I now renamed it to live-installer to make it more obvious, that this is a live-cd, which automatically installs a system from the live-cd. Also it's a live-installer for the schoolservers, not for the laptops.
