As of 2007-11, it appears Fedora 7, Fedora 8 and Ubuntu are working well and are actually used (eg, by the core team). Gentoo looks plausible, but I've not seen reports of use. Debian appears a work in progress, but not yet ready for use? The other platforms seem unlikely to work without a great deal of effort. Sugar is under heavy development, thus it can change faster then these instructions.
