Some wikis focused on education by and for children:

It is not sure how often children's laptop would be used with an internet connection. Anyway a wiki not only to give knowlege but to write and built it (in several language) has proved its efficiency with Wikipedia. Not only its content (or simple WP's) should be pasted, but rather its way to work. Such experience are made in dutch (wikikids.nl and in french : http://fr.vikidia.org/. both projects keep in touch each other but are independent. They are quite successfull with 800 artcles in 8 month for the dutch one and as many in 2.5 month for the french one. It could become an international project and both help to buit a free encyclopedic data in many language dedicated to children and have a stong pedagogical interest in a Writing to learn approach.
