Who are we?
What do we plan to achieve?
The objectives of the group are simple and listed below
- Bring a change into lives of the under privilege children through quality education
- Using OLPC technology as powerful resource to empower kids to learn on their own
- Prepare them for the bright future
- Enable children to empower each other and bring about sharing of information as a means of learning to lead a better tomorrow.
How we are going to do it ?
OLPC Mumbai meet
The first meet was held on March 14, 2009 between 1400-1700 hrs IST at HBCSE and the following things were discussed.
- OLPC Project Introduction and Introduction of the members present
- An overview of what the OLPC project is all about through Videos and simple explanations.
- Addressed the issue of "Why a LAPTOP? .. proving why an "EDUCATION?" to children.
- Learning from Getting XO Started OLPC Pune Session (http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Getting_Started_XO_Pune_Camp)
- Address by Prof. Nagarjuna on Why use FOSS for Education ?
- Sugar - Introduction, Development and Localization
- HOW I CAN CONTRIBUTE ?

- Building Various Communities around Project
Re-Energizing Khairat school - 28th March,2009
It's time for some action...
We are planning to visit Khairat School on 28th March 2009.
Agenda :
- XOs Upgradation (Primary).
- Solving any other technical issues they are facing specially to do with Marathi localization
- Look at what content is required.
Also it would act as a learning experience for further Upgrade of Projects.
Transportation : It would be great if we can get personal 2 wheelers but if there are enough participants we can hire a MUV /mini bus( Suggestions )

Some Homework to be done for Upgrade Camp at Khairat

- Marathi Localization Steps :-
1] Format pen drive and rename pen drive to OLPC 2] Copy all info, linfo & script files to pendrive (http://wiki.laptop.org/images/6/6c/XO-Marathi-localizaton.zip) 3] copy Marathi.sh & mr_lang_pack.sh from pen drive to XO 4] Run mr_lang_pack.sh script 5] Run Marathi.sh Script 6] Now go to #Home/olpc directory 7] Now edit file .i18n & replace LANG=”en_IN.UTF-8” With LANG=”mr_IN.UTF-8” 8] Restart Sugar
Now you should have running SUGAR with Marathi support.
(Etoys still need to get localized in Marathi language)
It's fine if you don't understand any of the above process.

Things to COMPLETE
- Re-energize the Khairat Project
- Marathi Localization for the existing XO laptops with childern at Khairat. (Software version upgradation for the technically inclined)
- School Server Upgrade - Moodle (Learning system to be upgraded with content as well as software versions, if required)
- Internet Connection (Configuration / Acquiring and a working internet connection)
- COW-Power: Electricity Generation (Using cows to rotate an innovative generator to generate enough power to charge the XO laptops)
- Alternative sources of electricity to power up the laptops
- Point of contact to resolve issues with the laptop be it hardware / software
- Continous update to knowledge base setup on the server
- Proposal for DOSTI (NGO "educating" kids in the "premnagar" basti of Worli)
- Stakeholders
- Initial setup and planning
- Technology and Infrastructure support and point of contact
- Enabling Knowledge transfer sessions to educate teachers to use XO laptop.
