Mabuhay! Welcome to OLPC Philippines

OLPC Philippines (OLPC PH) is a grassroots coalition of forward-looking and like-minded individuals living in the Philippines and abroad who are working to bring the ideals of OLPC to Filipino children. Please join and share your ideas - we're still very much in the formative stages, so people who are eager and willing to jump in are very, very welcome.

To join us, subscribe to the olpc-philippines mailing listand introduce yourself. We often send announcements and have discussions on this list. Also, please attend the next meeting if you can - this will give you a chance to get to know everyone.

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Foundation

The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit corporation registered with the Philippine Securities & Exchange Commission on 17 August 2009 (Registration No. CN200912617). Once we have secured the needed tax exempt status, we will be open to accept donations from both individuals and companies wanting to support our activities.

We have as an objective the deployment of the OLPC program in all the public primary schools in the Philippines as an immediate goal. We are open to work with interested private schools to deploy an OLPC program on the condition this is fully funded by the school or its donor sponsor.

At the same time, we will seek to help groups to start similar OLPC deployments in other 9 ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) member countries. These countries are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam. At the moment there are existing groups in Cambodia and Malaysia.

For further information on the OLPC Foundation, please email Charles Chen at ideasman88@gmail.com.

OLPC Volunteer Group

Aside from the Foundation, there is an OLPC volunteer group in support of the program in the Philippines. If you wish to be a registered volunteer in order to make available of your time and non-monetary contributions for the OLPC program, again please email Charles Chen at ideasman88@gmail.com.

Being a registered volunteer will allow you first preference to be involved in any sponsored projects to be implemented by the OLPC Foundations.

A number of volunteers have formed a separate group (ekindling) as described below.

Simply said -- we are much more than providing free laptops.

Our official mission is to enhance educational opportunities through open source, learning and technological innovations for the empowerment of children in the Philippines.

Having been conceived through the "OLPC process," this community driven initiative hopes to deliver the quality education that each child deserves throughout the Philippines. Join our community and for more information, please click eKindling

Special Announcements (OLPC School Pilot Volunteers)

We are looking for interested persons willing to volunteer their time to assist in the first OLPC School Pilot in the Philippines. We are currently in discussions with a group of former employees of the National Computer Center (NCC) who are willing to sponsor the pilot at the Lubang Integrated School at Lubang, Mindoro. This project is in honor of Lubang Mayor Jesus Sanchez who was the first managing director of the NCC. At the time the NCC was established in 1971 its mandate was to provide information bases for integrated planning and implementation of development programs and operational activities in the government.

All out-of-pocket expenses including transportation and accomodation arrangements will be provided to interested volunteers.

Interested parties please contact Charles Chen at ideasman88@gmail.com.
