Bienvenue!

Salut!

Hi ! Thanks for your help ! I'm not so good speaking english, but i think we can use this language.
You've done a great job on page OLPC Spanish America ! A page like that for french people would be really useful.
But, for the moment, we need to coordinate our efforts. I'm working on system translation, i've seen that User:EdX is working on somme wiki pages. We just need somewhere to keep track of what is being done, and what needs to be done.
Could we use a page named Localization/French on this wiki ? (maybe it would be a bit confusing with /lang-xx pages ...).

Yeah, my french is no good, let's stick with english (btw, I don't have problem reading it, so feel free to mix if you're more comfortable :)
For the translations, see the Translating page; there's a also a guided Translating/HowTo that hopefully will explain the /lang-xx format used. Btw, the framework is not set in stone, so anything that will make it better or simple is more than welcome!
If by l10n you mean localizing the software in the XO, see Activity Translations. For the wiki, the Translating, Translators and other pages should be helpful. BTW, we should also try to orgnaize this, so as a newcomer, any input you have will be helpful to build/organize it—iow, keep the questions, observations, and the good old "where is the %&@# whatever!?" will be appreciated! :) --Xavi 12:27, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
Wow ! I haven't seen these pages. Thanks a lot ! They are helpful.
About the wiki: navigation is really hard. Is there a "Contribute" section, to explain process to new contributors (developers, translators, ...) ? If yes, I did not find it, maybe it should be a bit more visible... If not, this would be really useful (if it can be easily accessible to newcomers).
About localizing software, i discussed a bit with Marco, and this translation will be done within Fedora french translation team.
And thanks for your amazing work. SamuelB 09:25, 7 July 2007 (EDT)
Ouch! I had just realized that the Contribute page was a dead-end! Now it points to Participate.
Yes, afaik, the l10n of the software will be done within the Fedora site... probably with pointers and/or coordination from this wiki. If you have any questions, please, feel free to drop me a note. Cheers, --Xavi 13:43, 7 July 2007 (EDT)

RE: French team organization

follow-up to User talk:Xavi#French team organization

Perfect! Now, I wouldn't spend too much energy in this meta-level, I would just 'jump in' :) If you want to start translating a page into french just start it... (here's a proposed starting list) or you can look into the translated pages (although outdated, may give a feeling of which pages are valuable from the reader PoV). Obviously, we now have the OLPC releases in Fedora so you can also make headway there... BTW, If we ever need to move the page, don't worry, we'll do it, and leave a redirection behind.

Another 'possibility' (that I'm thinking right now) is to have a dedicated page to the French language (currently it's a redirect to a list) somewhere in line with the Spanish language (still a very crude and unthought page that needs work) but where there could be a section dedicated to the wiki, coordination, l10n and meta level aspects... just a thought. Cheers, --Xavi 10:58, 12 July 2007 (EDT)

BTW, you can 'sign' your comments using four tildes (~~~~ leaves a link to the user + timestamp), or just three (~~~ leaves just the user)... or simpler yet, hit the button with a signature (2nd from the right) which inserts --~~~~

Thanks ! I'm currently translating XO within French Fedora team ;-) . Next, I'll see for the wiki (if i have some time to do it ... my todo list is always full !).
I don't think a page like Spanish language will fit to this work : they have really different goals. But a page like that would be useful also :-) . --SamuelB 11:33, 12 July 2007 (EDT)
