Global collaboration site

LiveJournal is very journal-specific. Blogger, et al, very focused on mainly single-person blogs. Wiki* projects are all rather specific themselves.

There is not yet a generic wikihost that provides individuals with space to throw up a page about whatever they please... something worth considering doing - perhaps only for all laptop users; perhaps with some very general project-based security so that first-edits are delayed; and projects can get their own namespace and project admins can independently control who edits non-talk pages there.

One bonus: dealing with vandalism can almost be reduced to dealing properly with merge conflicts from offline synchronization.

Although 'global' has a nice ring to it, 'local' should not be discarded, not only due to language issues, but also regional ones.
The bonus I didn't quite get... are you proposing that all editions be 'signed'? IOW, some kind of transparet login so that the user's editions are always identifiable? The idea makes sense, the 'police role' is not... --Xavi 13:58, 4 March 2007 (EST)

Barnraisings et al

I know this may sound a bit of a nitpick, but some of the english terminology is too english-centric. I don't mind, but it should be noted that it makes it harder for non-native speakers to even start trying to understand the ideas, implications or models (forget about translations). My suggestion is that given the multi-lingual, multi-cutural project's nature we should refrain from using slang or obscure english terms... :) --Xavi 13:44, 4 March 2007 (EST)
