Lauren has the connection with Columbia prep, let's see how that comes out
Brendan: I would like to get students from the neighborhood who might not get a lot of opportunities like this. Obviously we don't want to have discipline issues, but Stuyvesant kids get to do plenty of cool stuff all the time (after all, their school was wikipedia's [| Featured Article]

Columbia's Free Culture chapter is coder-heavy. that seems like a reliable source

Brendan: I have emailed the editors of the main Columbia newspaper and magazine to ask them to 'co-sponsor' this event, providing student journalists to guide high school students and to write content
Lauren has also emailed a contact at the J-school. it'd be great if we can expand this beyond an undergraduate project

for now the date is September 21st - 23rd
Fred said that there might be room at NYU to host the event. I will also start looking around Columbia

Let's start brainstorming what tools student journalists need to make papers and get their voices online

ideas:

an easy layout tool. students submit several articles, rate their importance, and the software will arrange the articles on a page
blogging tools?
this is something where it might be good to ask our old high school journalism teachers (if our schools had them) what they would have like to have had
