In A Nutshell
Journalism Jam New York<br\> Where: At one of New York's universities - details forthcoming - Fred's working on this. <br\> When: September 21-23, 2007 (subject to room availability)<br\> Goal: Create and collect a suite of tools for building an open-content newspaper that local high school journalists can then use to produce and print a full newspaper issue in less than 24 hours, then capture that process so others can repeat it.
Introduction
We're looking for journalists and journalism students, techies with an interest in content management systems and online newspapers, graphic and layout designers, and education students with an interest in writing to join us to create:
- A single edition of a online newspaper
- A bundle of the open source tools you need to publish one
- An open content how-to guide for groups of kids who want to start their own paper
We're looking to do all this in a single weekend. After the Jam, we'll publish our results to the web under Creative Commons licenses so that other groups can benefit from our work. Participation is free. Care to join us?
What is a Jam?
An OLPC Jam is a content creation crunch that gets participants from idea to reality in just a few days. By the end of the Jam, you'll have something finished to test with local youth (who serve as judges for the event). It's a great way to get started developing for OLPC. Click here to learn more.
