Why did we opt for Google Sites, Google Calendar, Google Discussion Groups, and the other Google tools, s.a. Google Docs? OLPCO2e is going to have to do a LOT of calculations and data-input for calculating the CO2e-reductions, e.g. for every country we'll have to calculate and monitor the Greenhouse Gas Reductions and monitor that objectively year by year. Our calculations and monitoring is followed-up by independent auditors and verificators, think SGS, TUV, ... I've posted a Request For comments on this topic at the Talk:Communication_channels#Advice_and_RFC_to_OLPCO2e-Entity. I've discussed it only with the OLPCNews co-editor, but that person agreed that Google is developing, integrating and deploying all these tools into and as one "Virtual Office" much faster than the IT-tools OLPC puts at our disposal. And since OLPCO2e is a new Entity... I didn't see any harm of going that road until there is a better option/comment. :) --SvenAERTS 21:58, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

It sounds like an interesting program -- how can people get involved with its development directly, other than by joining the mailing list? Are there detailed pages that need more data or other input? Are you already talking to environment grps for support? JamesK
Answer by skype svenaerts / manager OlpCO2e and working at the OLPC-Brussels offices: Thx James for your interest. Well... I think that's a very good question you're asking there. And I want to turn the question to the whole OLPC community and staff on who this is dealt with at OLPC and ... in e.g. WikiPedia Open Community projects ? Even more: Do we want an OLPCo2e.org and an OLPCO2e.com ? In the sense that all the not for profit matters come in OLPCO2e.org and the for-profit stuff in OLPCO2e.com ? We have strategical advantage here: OLPC is about the only ICT initiative generating those CO2e-Certificates ... the ICT sector is being pushed in the "Kyoto Protocol", just like the Transport Sector and the Aviation Sector as you've probably heard about ... well... many ICT-companies are not even aware of that discussion ... Anyway, I guess you can imagine there's strategical stuff we cannot just broadcast all at once and just for nothing until we negotiated the best deals for partnerships and top-euro's for the OLPC kids. On the other hand ... I can imagine strong feelings for disseminating and allowing other NGO's and just about everybody to follow OLPC as a not-for profit in how it tacles this "Kyoto Protocol"-Green "Money" that all of a sudden arrives ... imagine you're a little ngo in Asia/Africa/Latin America ... we explain about OLPC laptops and how they are open source - I guess, and that's one of the strong points of OLPC and its laptops. Do we want to take that into the OLPCO2e.org ... and maybe allow OLPC2e.com to keep certain info for itself until it has gotten what it wanted out of some strategical negotiations / has had the time to undertake and go through those strategical negotiations? Why don't we organise a series of workshops on this and invite e.g. the WWF and Greenpeace and some other NGO's that have dealt with this? Let it be clear: OLPC hasn't changed, OLPC's mission hasn't changed ... society has changed in that it has finally caught-up with OLPC ... and not just with the mouth .. no it puts the money where its words are: OLPC get's it in CO2e-Certificates... which it can sell to those that caused the Global Climate Destabilisation: the Industrialized Countries'Governments and their Largest Greenhouse Gas Emitting companies/industries.
