The Austin Laptop Lending Library

How do I apply?

in person

This happens mostly at XO Austin meetings or XOware meetings. You may apply for an XOware meeting, please follow that link.

by mail

Policies

Standard loans will be of a month each. One-week loans might be possible for groups.

A policy for possible renewals will be drafted later.

   * spell out how you (and your library "clientele") will Give Back to the OLPC/Sugar community
Two main "clienteles" for the library - probably not limited
o kids will be able to explore and use the laptops. They will be encouraged to report on their experience. Homeschoolers will be especially encouraged to apply.
o grownups will be able to have an initial "get-acquainted" phase. Those who then move on to deeper commitment with development projects will be encouraged to become part of the Contributor program. The existence of the Library also will allow many other people to become more in tune with the OLPC possibilities, encouraging donors and advocates.
   * what is the long-term plan for the library? who will coordinate your library if you move on?
o Initially Yamaplos (Yama Ploskonka) will run this initiative, coordinating with the XO Austin group and Austin homeschooling groups, and as people get involved, long term options will be sought. If nothing else is available and I have to move on, we will seek within the SG channels to pass this on to another group, one option being to support the Library getting started in Bolivia
   * how will you report statistical patterns on lending/recirculation trends (important: to help all laptop libraries worldwide!)
o Public reporting of all this information, as well as actual use given, etc, is a priority in our project.
