This is a collection of [[content bundles]], asset libraries and other materials available for download to the laptop. Content bundles on this page should have been tested to some degree on a build, and should indicate which builds they work on. Click on the name of any bundle for detailed information. For dynamic bundles and code, see [[Activities]].


Please click on the name of a collection for details.
After downloading a content bundle, you should unzip it into /home/olpc/Library and run /home/olpc/Library/makeindex.py to regenerate your library index. This will later happen automatically when a file with the bundle mime-type is downloaded.
Each collection should indicate which builds it has been tested with.


If you have a content bundle that's ready for public consumption, please add it to the grid. If you're not sure about its readiness, you can add descriptions and links to the [[talk:Library grid|talk page]].

These are collections of books, images, maps, music, and other "library bundles" for download to the laptop.

Installing one collection

See Activity installation to install groups of activities.

To install a collection:

  1. start the Browse activity on your XO;
  2. go to this page in the browser;
  3. click on the Download link to an .xol bundle
  4. when it's finished, click OK.
  5. press the back key in Browse to return to the "OLPC Library" home page. The new content should appear in the appropriate section of the library navigation.

To-do

  • Update the browser mime-type list so it knows how to unpack and stow away library bundles
  • Update the library main page to generate its navigation dynamically from its directory list
  • Publicise this standard to people with game, audio, video, text, and other libraries; including activities that are registering mime-types with the browser and want to offer a way to browse their projects without launching them directly: for instance, Etoys should automatically produce a collection linking to its projects on the laptop build... perhaps with a section linking to other projects online.
  • Define the generic bundle type for simple collections of files to be shared
  • Unify bundle metadata and extensions to avoid extra custom formats and specialized hacks
  • Set up converters for SCORM and similar zipped formats that track extra data about bundle use or bundle-related data. (note that in current implementation, it makes more sense to convert them to 'activity' bundles than to 'content' bundles since they capture usage data and provide that to [the browser/launching app].)
