[ PROJECT #1 - XO Educational Game Dev for Haiti - Charlotte, NC ]

<CanoeBerry> Great, let's start. Please all critique, mentor & vote for Project #1 here:
<CanoeBerry> XO Educational Game Dev for Haiti - Charlotte, NC
<CanoeBerry> http://rt.laptop.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=88706
<CanoeBerry> SPECIFIC SITE NEEDS TO BE POSTED OFF http://olpcMAP.net &
<CanoeBerry> http://j.mp/6UhCtd
<CanoeBerry> Requests 4 XOs over 12 months
<CanoeBerry> Project Objectives:
<CanoeBerry> The overall objective of this project is to develop a suite of games
<CanoeBerry> that
<CanoeBerry> can be deployed on existing XO's throughout Haiti. These games will be
<CanoeBerry> culturally-situated and will focus on educational content that is both
<CanoeBerry> relevant and applicable to Haitian culture. A primary focus of the
<CanoeBerry> developed games will be logical and computational thinking, with an
<CanoeBerry> emphasis on understanding, retaining, and following sequential
<CanoeBerry> instructions. Of particular interest to us is the creation of a business
<CanoeBerry> simulation game that will be centered around the ti machann (market
<CanoeBerry> women)
<CanoeBerry> who are often believed to be the soul of Haiti's economy. This game will
<CanoeBerry> allow the player to experiment with running and growing a business,
<CanoeBerry> utilizing microcredit loans, budgeting, hiring employees, etc. in an
<CanoeBerry> environment where it is okay to fail. We hope to deploy this particular
<CanoeBerry> project to the young women who are will participate in the High Hopes
<CanoeBerry> Haiti project, which is being established by Mothering Across
<CanoeBerry> Continents.
<CanoeBerry> Additional games will focus on math, science, and geography. A secondary
<CanoeBerry> objective will be to form a lasting partnership with educational
<CanoeBerry> providers
<CanoeBerry> throughout the country so we can continue to develop and deploy
<CanoeBerry> effective
<CanoeBerry> and meaningful XO projects for the children and also evaluate the
<CanoeBerry> success
<CanoeBerry> (or failure) of our work.
<CanoeBerry> Our specific objectives are:
<CanoeBerry> - To create 3-5 educational games that are sensitive to the cultural and
<CanoeBerry> economic conditions in Haiti
<CanoeBerry> - To deploy these games on XO's currently in Haiti and
<CanoeBerry> - To seek out methods of acquiring and deploying additional XO's in
<CanoeBerry> Haiti
<CanoeBerry> - Providing UNCC computer science students with additional opportunities
<CanoeBerry> for game development and outreach
<CanoeBerry> (Sorry 'bout that flood!)
<CanoeBerry> Let's begin.
<CanoeBerry> Shaun & Katelyn, take the lead explaining quick if you can!
<cjl> I would like ot know about the i18n / L10n plans for thsi work.
<CanoeBerry> cjl: explain for Shaun & Katelyn what you mean, after they introduce their work?
<cjl> ok
<KatelynLiz> Of course, we work with a national group called STARS Alliance that recently made a trip to Haiti and was present for Waveplace training with a batch of OLPC's
<KatelynLiz> Our area of expertise is Computer Science and STEM education and we'd like to help bring those skills to students in Haiti, ideally through development of curriculumn for the XO's
<CanoeBerry> Will XO-1s suffice, or are you looking perhaps for a combination of 2 XO-1s and 2 of the newer XO-1.5s? (Haitian schools all use XO-1s today..)
<shaunpickford> We're looking to establish an international arm to STARS Alliance, who specializes in service learning focused on computing. We have components of STARS that create educational games and we would to incorporate XO development into that.
<CanoeBerry> (XO-1.75s are not yet ready for volunteer contributors beyond hardware hackers at this time..)
<KatelynLiz> XO-1s will suffice. However, we've been told by our partners with the schools in Haiti that Waveplace hopes to provide more XO's in the future...if there's a chance that they'll provide newer machines, it would be good to be able to test our work on those as well.
<CanoeBerry> Perhaps 1 XO-1.5 and 3 XO-1s?
<KatelynLiz> That would be great
<shaunpickford> That would be fantastic!
<shaunpickford> We could test on both platforms and ensure our games function on both.
<CanoeBerry> cjl: ask away, explaining your i18n / L10n concerns if you can?
<cjl> i18n is internationalization 9preparing a program to be translated), L10n is localization (translating it).
<shaunpickford> ah, gotcha
<CanoeBerry> French and Creole being the 2 national languages of Haiti, according to the 1987 constitution.
<shaunpickford> one of our plans with this is establishing a core group of us that learn Creole, as well as incorporating native Creole speaking Haitians that live here to help us
<KatelynLiz> We're actually hoping to make language non-specific games
<cjl> We host L10n on Poolte, wheere activities tha have been i18n can be localized into any lang.
<CanoeBerry> How?
<dristi> Will any games you develop become available under the Creative Commons licenses and become downloadble Activities from the OLPC Wiki?
<CanoeBerry> And http://activities.sugarlabs.org
<shaunpickford> So we seek to make language non-specific games, but if we have to incorporate language elements, we would incorporate localization as well.
<dristi> TX Adam
<KatelynLiz> Graphics (arrows, circles, flashing indicators, etc.) rather than words. This poses more challenges, but it also presents some worthwhile research questions for our group.
<cjl> shaunpickford: using gettext to generate PO files?
<CanoeBerry> What gamification topic(s) will be prioritized / released first among the 3-5?
<CanoeBerry> Social gamification or not..
<KatelynLiz> Also, yes, all of our games will be CGL and available for download.
<shaunpickford> cjl: yes, whatever we would need to incorporate to ensure they are properly localized utilizing existing frameworks
* Aqua-Yellow-48  has joined #olpc-meeting
<CanoeBerry> CGL?
<cjl> shaunpickford: I'd be happy to help answer any questions on that
<shaunpickford> cjl: that would be fantastic, I'm a bit naive with the XO platform as far as development goes :)
* cjl is Translation Team Coordinator for SL
<KatelynLiz> My primary focus is going to be on a business simulation game, based on discussion with groups doing microcredit lending I feel like there's a clear place for a game that would teach finance and business management, in Haitian-context.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> I just join the meeting. I am here for Lo de Marcos.
<dristi> What age children are you targeting?
<Aqua-Yellow-48> 9-12 years
<CanoeBerry> Game2Learn sounds amazing. OLPC's global community would be honored to have your contributions. Will one of you join our largest annual summit in SF Oct 21-23? (http://olpcSF.org/summit)
<KatelynLiz> I'd like it to be playable for an audience as young as the middle school level, but applicable up to high school.
<shaunpickford> CanoeBerry: I believe Katelyn meant CCL earlier, not CGL
<CanoeBerry> k
<cjl> Aqua-Yellow-48: We are discussing #1 on http://lists.laptop.org/pipermail/grassroots/2011-September/001800.html now
<CanoeBerry> Let's vote..objections?
<KatelynLiz> I am hoping to attend...I'm a student, so I'm trying to secure funding rather than pay out of pocket, but hopefully it works out.
<CanoeBerry> +1
<shaunpickford> We're definitely trying to get one or both of us to the summit!
<dristi> +1
<CanoeBerry> Thanks, am working on housing around SF for those proven/volunteers that require it.
<cjl> +1 , jsut FYI, you should take a look at Food Force

<KatelynLiz> cj1: thanks!
<dristi> CanoeBerry that was one thing I wnated to speak to you about...gotta get my tix this weekend but there's been no more info. after the meeting can we chat?
<cjl> hmm, one last question
<shaunpickford> Fantastic! Thank you very much!
<shaunpickford> cjl: shoot
<KatelynLiz> Thank you so much, unfortuantely I have to run off to another obligation, but Shaun can stay for the rest of the meeting I belive.
<cjl> What ideas on leveraging collaboration between Xo laptops?
<CanoeBerry> dristi: definitely, email me if you can plz!!
<shaunpickford> collaboration between which parties?
<KatelynLiz> CanoeBerry: I'm available by email always, and could chat this evening, after 5.
<cjl> Just think about it, I'm still +1
<shaunpickford> will do, we can chat after if you lke
<KatelynLiz> Oh, we want multiplayer games...if that's what you're asking.
<shaunpickford> *like
<CanoeBerry> KatelynLiz & shaunpickford: hit me anytime, on Skype if poss..
<KatelynLiz> All multiplayer games.

<CanoeBerry> http://j.mp/6UhCtd
<CanoeBerry> Requests 40 XOs and 12 months
<CanoeBerry> Project Objectives:
<CanoeBerry> In developing OLPC (PL) we aim to establish a 100% volunteer
<CanoeBerry> organization
<CanoeBerry> and platform for OLPC in Poland. The intent of OLPC (PL) is to support
<CanoeBerry> the deployments of XO computers towards solving defined needs in PL
<CanoeBerry> schools, schools in developing countries, inspire and support community
<CanoeBerry> development in the area (Eastern Europe). Sorry could not
<CanoeBerry> resist to copy the UK version… it simply fits!
<dristi> 40???
<CanoeBerry> Who loves Poland???
<dristi> -1
<dristi> :) they have to show that they are not totally naive
* KatelynLiz (~45847236@olpc.osuosl.org) Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC)
<CanoeBerry> dristi: you should know that 40 is significant in Jewish, Christian, Islamic, and other Middle Eastern traditions ;)
<CanoeBerry> Apparently they put on a good show in Paris.
<dristi> hi sandra
<CanoeBerry> Christoph may have already given them an XO-1 and/or XO-1.5?
<cjl> CanoeBerry: 40 is significant in XO terms too
<CanoeBerry> Remind us?
<cjl> Thats' a lot to ask for
<shaunpickford> Is anyone here to speak on their project? I would ask why they need 40 since it appears they're attacking a broad spectrum.
<CanoeBerry> I'd ask Christoph to mentor, suggesting the conclusion here.
<CanoeBerry> 2 would seem to be more appropriate.
* Dom_Waw_Pl  Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC (Ping timeout))
<CanoeBerry> Or 5 if they prove they can manage an XO local library?
* ndoiron  Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC)
<CanoeBerry> Com_Waw_Pl: we're talking about you!
<cjl> We should check if they have been working on lang-pl in Poolte. Someone has.
<CanoeBerry> Can you present your Poland community-building efforts?
<CanoeBerry> We believe 40 is too high for starters.
<CanoeBerry> What is more reasonable?
<CanoeBerry> We need to bring this to a vote.
<CanoeBerry> Com_Waw_Pl: can you explain/summarize your ambitions?
<dristi> Do they have a site to start out with a few iup to 10? Or just beginning. Sorry I haven't read the ticket
<CanoeBerry> Oops we losts him.
<CanoeBerry> OK, let's move on.
<cjl> I'd like to see http://translate.sugarlabs.org/pl/ clsoer t ocompletion before snding that many for one.
<dristi> I agree Chris
<CanoeBerry> Motion to let Christoph finalize a much smaller XO & XO-1.5 count to seed this new Polisjh community.
* satellit_ Quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
<CanoeBerry> OK
<cjl> +1 o nCanmotion
<cjl> +1 on CanoeBerry motion
<dristi> +1 on the motion
<CanoeBerry> +1 to cjl's suggestion, too.
<CanoeBerry> Calling once..
<CanoeBerry> Calling twice..
<CanoeBerry> Calling thrice..
<shaunpickford> +1 on motion as well
<shaunpickford> sorry for slowness :)
<cjl> CanoeBerry: I didn't check, but if they are the people listed contributing to L10n, they'd up their street cred.
<banseljaj> +1 on motion too.
<CanoeBerry> CONDITIONALLY APPROVED with Christoph Derndorfer finalizing a much smaller number of XO-1s and/or XO-1.5s to be shipped, if http://translate.sugarlabs.org/pl/ gets closer to completion!

<CanoeBerry> Project Objectives:
<CanoeBerry> 1 - To help students in the class learn the importance of quality in the
<CanoeBerry> Spanish language and in communications.
<CanoeBerry> 2 - Consolodate it with last years project
<CanoeBerry> 3 - Complete activities and documentation already done
<CanoeBerry> 4 - create activities that invite the students to look for
<CanoeBerry> information on
<CanoeBerry> the internet
<CanoeBerry> 6 - Make the activities and documentation available to the Sugar
<CanoeBerry> community
<CanoeBerry> Aqua-Yellow-48: plz introduce your work now, thanks!
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Please slowly because we don't english verry well.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Please slowly because we don't english verry well.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> We are Louis and Guy.
<CanoeBerry> Are you expanding the 10 XO laptops you received last year to 26 kids in the class?
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Yes
<CanoeBerry> If so, we must warn you that OLPC's Contributors Program is for research&development primarily!
<Aqua-Yellow-48> We want 16 more.
<CanoeBerry> Understood.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> to continue projet
<Aqua-Yellow-48> 26 students per class
<CanoeBerry> But we must warn you the Contributors Program requires an R&D or Community Documentation component first.
<cjl> Aqua-Yellow-48: digame algo de la ano pasado con 10 XO, donde hay blog postings, etc.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> http://www.infobourg.com/olpc
<cjl> gracias
<CanoeBerry> Can you explain how you and http://www.infobourg.com/tag/mexique/ will help others around Latin America?
<Aqua-Yellow-48> We product document to help students and teachers to learn.
<cjl> en frances?
<CanoeBerry> Can you tell us how http://www.infobourg.com/tag/mexique/ is helping other deployments to date?
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Because it is written in english
<Aqua-Yellow-48> in spanih
<Aqua-Yellow-48> spanish no english
<Aqua-Yellow-48> No en french now but we can translate. Spanish now.
<cjl> parece ques es en frances
<CanoeBerry> Can you work with http://twitter.com/olpc_mexico promoting your classroom materials?
<Aqua-Yellow-48> In french, iit is the description of whay we did
<CanoeBerry> I fear that OLPC cannot approve this project without more evidence that its classroom techniques/documentation are being share and used!
* christophd  has joined #olpc-meeting
<cjl> I would like to read the blog materials before voting
<Aqua-Yellow-48> The documents to learn are another place
<cjl> I would like t osee those too.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> 1 moment
<CanoeBerry> christophd: You just won the Polish vote! (YOU have to decide their final XO-1 / XO-1.5 by popular fiat ;)
<christophd> CanoeBerry: in the middle of a meeting
<Aqua-Yellow-48> http://www.infobourg.com/2011/04/17/les-activites-du-projet-olpc-au-mexique-sont-maintenant-accessibles-pour-tous/
<christophd> but wanted to step in for a second to see how things are going
<Aqua-Yellow-48> At the bottom
<cjl> Past performance on the 10 XOs and communication about it is an important indicator of future performance
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Yes I
<CanoeBerry> Motion to let Caryl Bigenho finalize her recommendation, based on the very limited number of XO-1s we have.
<christophd> CanoeBerry: what project number are we on?
<CanoeBerry> #3
<Aqua-Yellow-48> It was very great
<christophd> CanoeBerry: and how did Polish vote end?
<CanoeBerry> You won the evote!
<Aqua-Yellow-48> +1
<cjl> CanoeBerry: ?

<CanoeBerry> Project #2 recap: "CONDITIONALLY APPROVED with Christoph Derndorfer finalizing a much smaller number of XO-1s and/or XO-1.5s to be shipped, if http://translate.sugarlabs.org/pl/ gets closer to completion!"
<cjl> Not a clean win of 40
<CanoeBerry> Back to Project #3 in Mexico here.
<dristi> Has this group looked for or do they have any potential for funding this program to expand it, outside of gifted XOs? Have they tried that or do they plan to seek grants or help from NGO's government or corporate partnership?
<christophd> CanoeBerry: thanks for the info :)
<dristi> My ? refers to Mexico!
<Aqua-Yellow-48> The documents are here:http://www.infobourg.com/2011/04/17/les-activites-du-projet-olpc-au-mexique-sont-maintenant-accessibles-pour-tous/
<cjl> Aqua-Yellow-48: I like the listign you poitned out, I would like to have some time to examine them more.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> OLPC Mexico use them
<cjl> ok, that is a good recommendation.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Marina Cortes use the documents
* satellit_  has joined #olpc-meeting
<CanoeBerry> Can we vote. I request Caryl Bigenho review this listing of documentation and make a recommendation on CP can support "OLPC Lo de Marcos - Mexico"
<cjl> You are beginning to win my sympathies, re-investment in productive CP programs is something to consdier.
<dristi> Have you ever looked for sources to fund an expansion for more XOs?
<Aqua-Yellow-48> It is very important fo us
<CanoeBerry> ...How CP can support "OLPC Lo de Marcos - Mexico"
<Aqua-Yellow-48> for the school
<CanoeBerry> Understood, but OLPC does not have 10 XO-1s to provide as such, particularly schools that already received 10.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> We are two teachers retired
<Aqua-Yellow-48> and we help in Lo de Marcos
<cjl> I'm going to go with a +1 (but I wish I had more time to review the previous work).
<cjl> I do accept the limitations fo the CP intention though
<Aqua-Yellow-48> They verry good documents to learn.
<CanoeBerry> I like this work. But we eneed to balance the limited number of laptops available.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Documents are on line.
<CanoeBerry> Aqua-Yellow-48: do you have a US shipping address possible, if Caryl/others find a small number of laptops to help you?
<cjl> CanoeBerry: I understand the limitations with regret
<Aqua-Yellow-48> We ask only for 16 more please
<Aqua-Yellow-48> We live in Quebec.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Canada
<Aqua-Yellow-48> No adresse US

<cjl> Aqua-Yellow-48: You should post an entry on that wiki page (for starters).
<dristi> Agreed-good idea!
<Aqua-Yellow-48> It is verry difficult for 26 students to work with only 10 XO
<CanoeBerry> OLPC does not have 16 laptops. Quebec address is harder that a US address, but might be doable..
<CanoeBerry> Let's conclude. Merci.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> We will put it on wiki page when we will know how to do it.
<CanoeBerry> +1 for conditional approval with Caryl Bigenho helping fine-tune how "Lo de Marcos" can better work with OLPC's global ccommunity.
<cjl> Aqua-Yellow-48: cARYL CAN HLP YOU POST ON THE WIKI.
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Last year you ship them the XO directly to Lo de Marcos.
<CanoeBerry> Aqua-Yellow-48: if you are retired, can 1 of you make time to join our global community in San Francisco Oct 21-23 during our largest summit?
<CanoeBerry> This year we have less money.
<maraschino> Nice plug CanoeBerry!
<CanoeBerry> http://olpcSF.org/summit
<CanoeBerry> Final votes now!
<CanoeBerry> Please!
<cjl> I'm a +1, but I accept the limitations of the numbers of CP machines available.

<shaunpickford> +1 with limitations
* tch___ Quit (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
<Aqua-Yellow-48> Important for Lo de Marcos school
<CanoeBerry> CONDITIONAL APPROVAL on a small number of XOs if Caryl Bigenho helps find ways to increase dissemination of quality materials produced by "Lo de Marcos". Canadian (or better yet US) shipping address will likely be required.

<cjl> banseljaj: If you committed to finish http://translate.sugarlabs.org/pa/ then maybe you'd be accomplishing something very useful.
<CanoeBerry> dristi on Project #3: "OLPC Lo de Marcos - Mexico" already received 10 last year. We simply have no inventory for expanding projects in general. If this group proves their community deliverables/documentation is activating/helping others worldwide, Caryl Bigenho will help us decide to ship a few more.
* Yoshio  has joined #olpc-meeting

<CanoeBerry> How would 2 XOs be used, if approved?
<CanoeBerry> Whether 2 XO-1s or 2 XO-1.5s...
<banseljaj> We would prefer all to be 1.5. Snce we plan to buy the full bulk as 1.5 too.
<CanoeBerry> Shall we vote?
<banseljaj> maraschino: The infrastructure project is already underway. We have talked to a locl ISP who will provide us with High speed internet access. And the servers I will be buying myself.
<maraschino> banseljaj: Great!
<CanoeBerry> Shipping is very expensive for OLPC -- do you have a US shipping address?

<banseljaj> cjl: I'm putting together a team for localization.
<CanoeBerry> Let's conclude: will 2 XO-1.5s start a meaningful project?
* shaunpickford  Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC)
<banseljaj> I hope so.
<CanoeBerry> +1 for 2 XO-1.5s if so
<banseljaj> These will be with a devkey, right?
<cjl> +1 for 2 XO-1.5s
<CanoeBerry> No http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Developer_key required.

<maraschino> #5: I don't see a whole lot of details on how the project will be implemented. No specific school information, project info.
<CanoeBerry> GrannieB: lesson plans & evaluations of CP projects are possible if you help make it part of the criterion here, yes.
<cjl> Anyone from #5 present t odiscuss?
* Dom-waw  has joined #olpc-meeting
<CanoeBerry> No projects get 10 XOs without prior work demonstrated. CP only ships a couple in the case of new projects, no matter how great :)
* Dom-waw  Quit (Client Quit)
<CanoeBerry> cjl asked the right questino :)
<maraschino> from what I hear they are already ready to buy 100. So I'm not sure what the 10 is for?

<cjl> Absent interactions with their local (existing) community, I'm a -1
<maraschino> frequent queries have not yielded concrete answers to how the project will be implemented
<dristi> Interesting: it's Kiwanis? Maybe they don't know about OLPC presence there already?
<CanoeBerry> atphalix: long time no see! Just heard great things about a small OLPC Morocco project emerging out of Mill Valley, California :)
<CanoeBerry> -1 until we hear more!

[ PROJECT #6 - Village Ventures - Mali & Malaga, Spain ]

<CanoeBerry> Onto Project #6
<CanoeBerry> Plz all critique/mentor/vote for:
<GrannieB> If they have 2 how about some more spefic details on Activities they will use
<CanoeBerry> Village Ventures - Mali & Malaga, Spain

<CanoeBerry> http://www.villageventures-diema.com
<CanoeBerry> http://rt.laptop.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=78963
<CanoeBerry> SPECIFIC SITE NEEDS TO BE POSTED OFF http://olpcMAP.net &
<CanoeBerry> http://j.mp/6UhCtd
<CanoeBerry> Requests 3-10 XOs over undeteremined months
<CanoeBerry> Project Objectives:
<CanoeBerry> We have 18 schools in Diema, Mali our town of 200,000 population,
<CanoeBerry> one of the poorest countries of the world.
<CanoeBerry> I work within the schools to develop literacy skills, local content,
<CanoeBerry> as well as hygiene and nutrition. We plan to target primary schools
<CanoeBerry> and introduce computor learning.
<CanoeBerry> Part of our project will be to encourage the children to tell their own
<CanoeBerry> stories via our new Diema blog, but we don't have sufficient funding to
<CanoeBerry> enable this programme.
<CanoeBerry> We would like to apply to your committee for a donation of 15 XOs to
<CanoeBerry> begin
<CanoeBerry> this programme.
<CanoeBerry> Although we are grateful for the 2 XOs already provided, to get the
<CanoeBerry> most out of the computors and the children we need additional, allowing
<CanoeBerry> each child opportuntiy to share the experience.
<GrannieB> The goals of thsi project could be met with any computer. Don't need XOs
<maraschino> Gotta go pick up my girl from school. Just want to do one more plug for everyone to join OLPC-SF Summit: olpcsf.org/summit ! You might find XO cookies in your goodie bags. Hope to see you there!
<GrannieB> Bye Cherrry!
<maraschino> bye everyone!
<GrannieB> se you in SF
<maraschino> see you CoolGrannieB!
* maraschino  Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC)
<GrannieB> cute cookies!
<CanoeBerry> OK, the applicant appears not to be here, to introduce her work?
<CanoeBerry> She gave a presentastion last week in Paris, at SugarCamp!
<CanoeBerry> Quite a dynami character I gather, who drives across Africa to her deployment every time.
<GrannieB> does the project already have XOs?
<CanoeBerry> Yes, 2
<GrannieB> are they cp machines?
<CanoeBerry> I motion to grant her a few more, shipped to the USA as her SF friends have agreed, with the understanding that she become more self-sustainable in future.
<CanoeBerry> GrannieB: yup
<GrannieB> has she posted about what they are doing so far
<CanoeBerry> See her blog above.
<dristi> +1
<CanoeBerry> Christoph in Paris explained to me she's full of energy, but still getting started.
<CanoeBerry> +1 on a very small number of XO-1s.
<cjl> We inherited AbiWord in Bamanankan, so we have a project. It is the lingua franca (French being official), I'd be happier if they worked on http://translate.sugarlabs.org/bm/
<CanoeBerry> I don't know the status of the many other large/small Mali OLPC projects proposed over the years.
* christophd  Quit
<CanoeBerry> We should ask the applicant to report back to us what she hears in country.
<GrannieB> I mean have they posted anout what they have done with their XOs?
<CanoeBerry> Read the blog above and be the judge!
<CanoeBerry> http://diemavillage.wordpress.com
<GrannieB> It isn't on page 1
<cjl> I'm +1 on a small number, with a request to work on L10n. Like GrannieB says, we should check ou tthei rcommunication on what they've done with the two they have.
* sandrat Quit (Quit: CGI:IRC (EOF))
<CanoeBerry> I'm willing to put this project on hold if we impose a specific demand on Village Ventures blogging more on particular topics, explaining more their OLPC direction. And then ship 5 XO-1s after that?
<GrannieB> Could they add a section on their blog where anyone can easily find it telling what they have done?
<cjl> I'm good with a hold too.
<CanoeBerry> The applicant certainly made an impressive trip to Paris' OLPC France SugarCamp, delaying her return to Mali apparently?
<GrannieB> They could add an OLPC tab to their blog
<CanoeBerry> Yes.
<CanoeBerry> Other votes?
<GrannieB> they could put resources from their talk at Sugar Camp there
<CanoeBerry> If we give conditional approval, based on further blogging of specific OLPC implementation knowledge-sharing, is 5 XO-1s accceptable?
<CanoeBerry> GrannieB: yese
<GrannieB> That sounds good to me +1
<CanoeBerry> Calling once..
<CanoeBerry> Calling twice..
<CanoeBerry> Calling thrice..
<GrannieB> on hold +1
<GrannieB> that is conditional approval
<dristi> For SF, I finally found the link with the most info: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC_SanFranciscoBayArea/OLPCSF_Community_Summit_2011
<CanoeBerry> CONDITIONAL APPROVAL of 5 XO-1s if applicant blogs more OLPC/Sugar specifics and/or her Paris talk off of: http://diemavillage.wordpress.com

[ CLOSING REMARKS ]

<dristi> I had been looking at old stuff. Plans seem to be shaping up really well!
<cjl> CanoeBerry: I'm good wit hyour call
<CanoeBerry> dristi: Yep! http://olpcSF.org/summit is the high-level link
<atphalix> "to develop literacy skills, local content, as well as hygiene and nutrition" did they already tried to produce some content and test that on XO?
<dristi> But doesn't have anything but the wiki link on it?
<CanoeBerry> THANKS YOU ALL!! MEETING ADJOURNED!! Can't wait to meet all the 30+ OLPC Canadians just W of Toronto this Sunday late afternoon!
<dristi> CanoeBerry: can we chat?
<CanoeBerry> http://lists.laptop.org/pipermail/toronto-dev/2011-September/000118.html
* dristi  Quit (Quit: http://forum.laptop.org/)
<banseljaj> I can see tha.
<banseljaj> What about declared customs value?
<atphalix> yeah customs can get really expensive when number over 3 XO...
<atphalix> depends on the receiving country anyway
<CanoeBerry> even 1 XO can be a nightmare, in so many countries -- worst case they charge you more tax/duties than the value of the XO :(
<banseljaj> Now i feel guilty. :\
