Dear Esemplectic,

Please allow me to correct a mistaken impression. No one thinks you are a vandal, your contributions are welcome. It would be nice for you to put a little information on your user page telling people who you are and what you are interested in, but that is not a requirement by any means.

Let me describe what happened so it is clear to you. At about 17:00 on July 1 an anonymous IP address 90.204.70.227 (talk · contribs) was used to vandalize a number of user and user talk pages. It just so happens that the users targeted for vandalism were users that had just made recent edits to the wiki (including, unfortunately, you). The nature of the vandalism was to paste in the entire text of the Book Of Revelation.

Being a wiki sysop and vandalism patroller, I recognized the vandalism and used the tools of a wiki sysop (block, rollback and delete) to restore the wiki to it's condition before the vandalism. Specifically, I blocked 90.204.70.227 (talk · contribs) for a period of one month, I used rollback to undo the edits on the various defaced user and user talk pages. When it came to your user and talk pages, there was no pre-existing text on them and because the vandal was the only editor in the history, rollback was not an option, the sensible option was to use "delete" because technically, the pages did not exist before the vandal defaced them. No one thinks you are a vandal and no one has taken any action against you. Your user and user talk pages were just one of several innocent "victims". Had their been any text on them, the corrective action taken would have been "rollback", but since there was no pre-existing text the corrective action taken was "delete". I apologize if this caused some confusion or concern on your part, please rest assured that no one thinks badly of you, in fact, all of this is evidence that people (like me) are keeping an eye on the wiki and trying to protect the contributions of users like you from those who would deface them. Please keep on making edits.

I am a little uncertain about the messages you are seeing, but let's try to fix that. This message will be the first edit on your Talk page and I will also make an edit on your User page (adding a single space character) and hopefully that will make those messages go away. If you are still having problems after that, drop another note on my user Talk page and I will try to help. I hope this clears up the misunderstanding.

By the way, if you add a valid e-mail address to your user account preferences [1], it will not be displayed on the wiki, but it will allow other users to send you an e-mail using the Email this user link that appears towards the bottom of the left-hand sidebar on every User page. The wiki will also send you notifications whenever a page on your Special:Watchlist is edited. Your user and talk pages are automatically on your watchlist and you can add other pages (like Pippy) by clicking the "Watch" tab when you are at those pages. Cjl 21:08, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
