SWIFT has donated laptops for 3500 children and 150 teachers in 10 schools in Caacupé. Thanks to partnerships with the government and telecommunications companies, internet and electrical infrastructure has been installed in all 10 schools. Some schools painted their classrooms in green and also painted the XO logo outside the classroom walls. You can see pictures in our photo gallery [http://picasaweb.google.es/paraguayeduca/SemanaDeEntregaXOsEnCaacupe#slideshow/5327877113032143970]

The teachers are attending a total of 4 weeks of teacher training (during their vacations!!) before the laptops are being given to children.

Now the teachers are already working with the children and their XOs.

The XOs are running OLPC OS 8.2.1 with some Paraguayan customizations:
* /boot/olpc_build version tag customised to include "Paraguay" and a Paraguay-specific release number
* initramfs modification to [http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/8104 retrieve activation leases over infrastructure networks from the school server]
* initramfs modification to [http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/9289 speedup shutdown by 15 seconds]
* Browse homepage customized (Spanish language, more kid-friendly, [http://dev.laptop.org/~dsd/20090219/py_home.png near-final screenshot])
* Add gcompris to favourite activities by default
* Disable first-boot "You should update your activities" message which is unintuitive for young, first-time users
* [http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/9248 Restore sound state to factory settings every boot], working around a somewhat-unknown bug where sound will often stop working until a reflash
* [http://dev.sugarlabs.org/ticket/362 Make the "Discard network history" button also unregister from the XS], just incase we need to do this again in future
* [http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/9250 Add some scripts for easy full journal restore]
* [http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/9259 Reduce the number of internet-bound requests that the activity updater has to make]

We are running XS-0.5.1 at each school.

Network infrastructure is primarily access points with an ethernet backbone to the school server. WDS and wireless bridges are used in some situations. Internet connectivity comes in through WiMaX.
