USB power can be eliminated by using the 5V DC bias on the microphone jack. It is meant for powering electret microphone capsules, but should be able to power the radio just fine.
The main peripheral page states:
- "A plug in AM/FM radio receiver (MIC IN or USB) would enable children/families in remote areas to continue to receive information from services such as BBC world service when outside of mesh range"
For truly remote areas, a shortwave receiver would be more useful than FM. Can this project be modified to include shortwave? How much would it add to the 50 cents? X-ds1-et1 13:31, 5 March 2008 (EST)
