Thanks very much. I just wanted to make a trivial change to see how it worked, and got frustrated because the error message said only that I should be logged in to edit, it did not say that I should be a member of some group. How does one fix the error message? Thanks. [[User:Rideout|David]] 01:50, 29 Jan 2009 (EST) |

The communications channel page is not a good place to practice as it is protected from editing by anyone but the handful of people with sysop priv, the information on there is important enough to take that measure and it is not something the average user will generally have a reason to change. - The error messages are basically part of the default MediaWiki wiki software installation and not something that would get fixed locally. Working with a wiki can be a little frustrating to learn at first, I would suggest creating a sandbox page in User-space for yourself linked off of your user page, something like User:Rideout/Sandbox and then you can practice wiki edits as much as you would like. The communications channel page is not a good place to practice as it is protected from editing by anyone but the handful of people with sysop priv, the information on there is important enough to take that measure and it is not something the average user will generally have a reason to change. cjl 20:57, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
