Hi Americo,

I just moved all of the OLPCities pages to addresses like "OLPCities/<blah>", and mentioned it in [[Talk:OLPCities]]. If you have any thoughts about this, or other commentary, please respond at that talk page, and leave a note at my own talk page: [[user_talk:jacobolus]]. Nice work on olpcities... how many people do you have testing it out? Cheers, Sj 13:04, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

Americo: Thanks. We have only a few guys now but we hope to have many people creating new content, doing tests etc. etc. soon. It's an open source project. Everybody can help.

Hello Adamascj. I often use the "Recent changes" page on the wiki to see what new stuff is added to it. But since several days, you are very present on that page because instead of using the "preview" option of the wiki, you directly use "Save page", and then look at your changes on the saved page to see if it's OK or not. So, I think you should use the 'preview' option much more often, it will help a lot for readability of the pages history. And nice work on OLPCities too, it looks great :)

guillaume

Americo: Sorry. I will do it.

OLPCities update?

Hi Americo, how is OLPCities coming? Who is working on it now other than you, are you getting regular feedback? Do you have any upcoming milestones? We have another sotware release in a couple of weeks, which would be a good deadline for a new public version. Sj talk 08:10, 29 December 2006 (EST)

The version of OLPCities that is beeing updated is the brazilian version, that you can see at: http://www.dmu.com/olpc Unfortunately is a portuguese version... I am having a good feedback but also only from Brazil and in portuguese. Thare are a blog only about the brazilian version, at: http://www.dmu.com

Orphaned pages

Hi! I'm trying to trim a bit the site and noticed several pages created by you that happen to fall in the orphan category (nothing in the site links to them). Many of the pages are related to the Category:OLPCities, and would like to purge them to make the site 'cleaner' and (hopefuly) simpler to maintain and keep track of.

Just for the record: I'm in no way trying to stop you from collaborating!
Far from it! I'm just trying to clean up a bit the site!
(if only I could understand portuguese better!) :)

I'm color-coding my 'suggestion' column to represent the following:

  • red - pages that I would probably delete without much looking into it
  • yellow - pages that might have content that you may want to salvage (deletion is forever!)
  • green - pages that maybe should not be lost, but can't really tell (link or move content)

If the Page/Description is lightgreen, it means that the page is linked (but empty). Please fill the last column with what you want me to do.

BTW, I've already put all the links of the suggested 'WebQuest sobre' into the 'main' WebQuest page (or what it seemed to be) - so they're are probably the simplest to start with by tagging them to be deleted in the table.

NOTE: I'm placing external links for the pages to avoid creating an internal link that will effectively remove them from the Special:Lonelypages list.

Please review the links and edit the table to let me know what to do. If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions, please ask! Thanks! :) --Xavi 00:41, 15 January 2007 (EST)

Pages to Move / Liberating Page Names

Many pages in the Category:OLPCities have names that are too generic and lead to confuse the user navigation and/or links. For example the link keyboard is now mapped to a page dealing with OLPCities' internal handling of the keyboard, which has nothing to do with what most people would think about the OLPC laptop keyboard (which is probably what they intended in the first place).

My suggestion is to make all or most of the pages in the Category:OLPCities as sub-pages of the 'main' OLPCities page. This would lead to links like [[OLPCities/Keyboard]] which from the semantics of the link and project make much more sense than to force Keyboard design, Keyboard Artwork Library, Keyboard layouts, Keyboard definitions, Keyboard Files, OLPC Keyboard layouts, etc. on the rest of the community. Any of which would probably make a much better choice for such a simple keyboard link.

Moving a page to be a sub-page is also a good opportunity to rename it to have a name more adequate or descriptive of its content. So if you want to rename them, please note it below.

NOTE: The color coding in red (basically for the Javascript sub-pages) is because the effort of doing a tutorial on it is vastly covered in other websites on the internet—making redundant the effort. So the whole set of pages should probably not be moved but rather deleted from this wiki (liberating the names) and letting the community concentrate on more OLPC-related work.

My comments and suggestions only intention is to make a better wiki, not stopping you from collaborating. If you have any questions, please do ask! :) --Xavi 11:02, 20 January 2007 (EST)

moved a bunch of olpcities pages around

Hi Americo,

I just moved all of the OLPCities pages to addresses like "OLPCities/<blah>", and mentioned it in Talk:OLPCities. If you have any thoughts about this, or other commentary, please respond at that talk page, and leave a note at my own talk page: user_talk:jacobolus. Thanks! --Jacobolus 19:42, 13 February 2007 (EST)
