Open the News Reader activity
Justification: HIG, Self
Actions:
- Click on the News Reader icon on the taskbar.
Verify:
- That a News Reader icon is added to the activity donut.
- That the icon pulses to indicate that it is starting up.
- That News Reader opens properly.
- That the list of feeds populates itself and displays the number of articles per feed.
Check Journal updates

Actions:
- Return to the Home view and open the Journal.
Verify:
- That an entry has been added for your News Reader session.
Use a feed
Justification: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/News_Reader, Self
Actions:
- Switch back to News Reader.
- Click the "Planet OLPC" tab on the left.
Verify:
- That news articles appear on the right side of the screen.
- That the currently selected tab becomes de-bolded and highlighted.
- That all text and images are displaying properly.
- That the numbers next to the feed name update to show the number of articles in the feed you haven't viewed yet.
Scroll through articles

Actions:
- Click the gamepad's arrow keys to scroll down until you get to the end of the page.
- Then, use the scrollbar to quickly go back to the top of the page.
- Click the "Older Entries" link and keep clicking it until you've viewed all pages of articles.

Clicking a link
Justification: Self
Actions:
- Click a link in one of the news articles in Planet OLPC (NOT the Older Entries/Newer Entries links).
Verify:
- That the link turns purple.
- That the Web activity opens and shows the page that was linked to.
- That a Web activity icon is added to the activity donut.
- That the News Reader activity window does not change.
Adding and removing feeds
Justification: Self
Actions:
- Press the Feeds tab, then click the + button (Add Feed).
- Type in the URL of a feed, then press Enter.
- Click on the feed you just added and scroll through it.
- Select the feed you just added and click the - button (Remove Feed).
Verify:
- That the Feeds tab becomes highlighted and changes the buttons on the taskbar.
- That clicking the Add Feed button opens the Add Feed window.
- That adding a feed causes it appear in the list of feeds, and the feed is browsable.
- That clicking the Remove Feed button removes the feed from your list of feeds.
Close the News Reader activity
Justification: HIG, Self
Actions:
- Click on the X button in the upper right corner.
Verify:
- That the News Reader window closes properly.
- That the News Reader icon is removed from the donut.
Resume from Journal
Justification: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC_Human_Interface_Guidelines/The_Laptop_Experience/The_Journal, Self
Actions:
- Open the Journal and scroll down until you find your News Reader entry.
- Click Resume.
Verify:
- That News Reader opens properly and a News Reader icon is added to the donut.
- That your session is restored properly.
