Details
At 11:00 UTC on Monday November 17th 2008, Give One Get One will launch at Amazon.com/XO.
Orders placed from the United States will be fulfilled immediately by Amazon.com, who are stocking and delivering the XO laptops within the US.
Orders placed from Europe will initially be soft, that is, consumers will simply be registering their interest to Give a laptop and Get a laptop for £275 (approximately €322). Note that as at 17 November 2008 the price quoted on amazon.co.uk for shipping is an additional £50 (approximately €59). No payment will be taken at this point.
Amazon & One Laptop per Child will be working hard to convert those soft orders into real ones in the next few days and weeks. Those who have registered their interest will then receive information on how they can pay, and when they can expect their 'Get' laptop to be delivered.
The £275 will be billed by Amazon.co.uk in Pound Sterling (GBP); donors outside of the UK will have to inquire with their credit card providers in order to determine the exact cost in their local currency.
Contrary to reports from various news sites, the £275 is the cost of TWO laptops -- it is the cost to Give One and Get One. Some sites incorrectly reported that £268 is the cost of one laptop, and that consumers would be required to pay £536 to Give One and Get One.
