한국은 그 경제력에 비해 오픈소스 공동체의 활동이 비교적 덜 활발한 편입니다. OLPC Korea는 오픈소스 공동체의 다양한 활동을 지원하며, 모든 프로젝트의 진행을 오픈소스 소프트웨어와 하드웨어에 기반합니다. OLPC Korea가 참여하는 각종 수익사업의 주된 목적은 오픈소스 공동체가 개발할 각종 하드웨어와 소프트웨어에 대한 보상금을 지급하기 위한 것입니다.

주요한 개발 과제는 다음과 같습니다.

Open Enterprise Architecture

한국 정부가 제공하는 65,000여 기능을 웹을 통해 제공하기 위한 일련의 개발 과정 지침입니다. 먼저, 정부가 제공하는 각각의 기능 또는 서비스를 YAWL과 같은 Workflow 언어로 도해화한 다음, 각각의 모듈을 재사용 가능한 오브젝트로 제작하고, 이러한 오브젝트들 간의 통신 표준을 결정하는 등의 과제입니다.

OLPC Korea는 이러한 전자정부 프로젝트를 통해, 한국 정부가 수행하는 반복적이고, 단순한 일과의 99% 이상을 자동화할 수 있을 것으로 기대하며, 이를 통한 직접적인 예산 절감과 간접적인 경제적 효용 증가량이 연간 수십 조원에 이를 것으로 추산합니다.

Open Enterprise Architecture는 이러한 일련의 개발과정을 지도하는 지침서입니다.
