Welcome

This is the main organizational page for the OLPC educator community. It is a work in progress.

The purpose of this community is to support teachers who are using XOs in their classrooms, and to involve educators of various backgrounds who are interested in contributing to the OLPC project.

Where to Start?

Haven't been here before?

Where should I go first?

  • The OLPC Learning Vision, to learn more about why we think children in developing countries need laptops and what we think laptops will enable them to do.
  • Creative Commons licenses, since we want all of the educational material produced for and connected with the project to be free and open source.

Where else should I go?

Projects

There are a number of ways to become involved with the OLPC project:

  • Read some background material on constructionist education;
  • Share ideas for innovative educational uses of the laptops;
  • Share ideas for educational content that could be distributed on the laptops or to OLPC's partner countries (see below);
  • Share ideas for educational activities, lessons, and curricula that could make use of the laptops in one of their many capacities;
  • Help modify and package existing content for use on the laptops;
  • Test early-stage laptops and content modules, and provide feedback on teacher and student experiences
  • Contribute to a Wikibook text in progress, such as Algebra 1 in Simple English
  • Contribute articles to Simple English Wikipedia. Information in simple English will be critical to these new learners.

See Activating educators for additional project ideas and organizational principles.
