Running a jam takes 20-40 hours of planning and oversight spread among 2 or 3 people; it is primarily worth it for its capacity to inspire the participants to iterate the process. Having laptops available to play with is useful. It would be nice to have a slow fanout that starts to demand jam boxes in November, and the possibility of getting one can be a reason for organizers to plan ahead and clearly publicize their schedule and interest from participating teams.
Mel has a Jam Box spec, likely updated since Taipei -- is this a good time to test it out? Are there any customs issues that would keep us from sending a box or receiving it back?

Who
- Mel Chua will take the machines from Boston to Seattle and back, and be ultimately responsible for their safe return. (Has 2 machines already)
- Seth Woodworth and Iain Davidson will also be around and heavily utilizing machines. (Have 1 machine each, so 2 total already)

How many
Requesting 5-7 loaners. Ideally we'd like to have one XO per team at each event (expecting 10-20 teams for each, but some volunteers will already have XOs, and we can borrow some locally.)
What
Health Jam Seattle - developing content, software, hardware, and development/communications/test/deployment infrastructures for the Health effort. We hope to have multiple hardware and software development teams attending, and definitely need at least one XO per hardware team (sensor input), and optimally one per software team as well.
LinuxFest Northwest 2008 - OLPC track with posters, exhibitions, stand-up presentations, and a smaller hackathon.
Hoping to go to meetups and hold other local events in the time between conferences as well - if nothing else, other conference organizers can use them to become familiar with the machine so they can help troubleshoot during the hackathon.
Notes
We'll bring them back and return them all unharmed when we're finished just in time for the Cambridge Science Festival.
