WHO (Peru)

  • I have contacted the Peruvian branch of the WHO regarding their "Virtual Health Library" (Biblioteca Virtual en Salud). They seem very interested. We have had the following exchange: Ben 09:40, 28 February 2008 (EST)
Queridos senores,

Muchas gracias,
Ben Schwartz

Dear Sirs,

My name is Benjamin Schwartz, and I am a volunteer with the OLPC
organization. I have visited your website, especially the Virtual Library
of Health. As you are probably aware, the ministry of education in Peru
is going to buy over 100,000 laptops for children from OLPC. If I
understand correctly, the first laptops will be delivered to 6000 schools
in rural areas, places without easy web access. Therefore, we would like
to include a digital library of health, with material that might be useful
for kids between the ages of 7 and 17. It can't be too big, at most 20 or
30 MB.

We are looked for texts about all the basic areas of health. They can be
in any language; if they're not in Spanish, we have much better
translators than I (I'm an engineer). Can you recommend which documents
we should read, and which organizations we should contact?

Thank you,
Ben Schwartz

Their reply (e-mail addresses removed):

Estimado Ing. Schwartz,

Atte.

Gaby Caro

My translation:

Dear Mr. Schwartz,

We appreciate your interest in our Virtual Health Library, and we would enjoy
an initiative to form a digital collection for the schoolchildren of Peru, in
conjunction with the OLPC initiative.

Our organization is involved with the Worlwide Campaign Against Malnutrition.
Unfortunately, the materials produced are largely scientific; nonetheless,
there are a few that might serve as classroom material for children.

I am copying this message to Diana Huaman and Ines Calderon so that they can
look for this material in the next few days.

We will be in contact with you shortly. We are very interested in participating
in this project.

Sincerely,
Gaby Caro
