THE CONTENT BELOW IS JUST AN OPINION OLPC KOREA TEAM RATHER THAN A KIND OF REGULAR PRODUCTION MODEL. OLPC KOREA HAS NO OFFICIAL RELATION WITH THE OLPC FOUNDATION
A Larger OLPC is OLPCs for 13~18 years old students, mostly under secondary educational processes such as middle or high schools.
As the most popular laptop size now in South Korea is with 12.1" display panels, we hope to make a prototype (mock-up) model of a larger OLPC. Fortunately, as there are many governmental laboratories which help people to make various mock-ups, we are now designing the exact size of the larger OLPC based on one of the best seller laptop PC in South Korea.
The below is our opinion about the size. Feature
- 12.1" display panel (wide)
- 300 x 225 x 30mm: this is one of the best seller model size, so we do also.
- 1.25 kg: it's target weight
- 800~1,200 Mhz CPU Clock -> We changed it to Geode LX700 as the OLPC team did.
- Mouse as IP Phone: see below
Keyboard
Enlarged keyboard layouts based on the size of a famous LG-IBM laptop model. See Keyboard design and XO Keyboard layouts the original keyboard concept of OLPC.
Display
There is some problems here. The display panel of original OLPC has 4:3 (H:V) ratio 7.5" panel, but the market situation of South Korea is that 4:3 (H:V) will disappear in 3~4 years. To avoid the situation of OLPC and the larger OLPC being the only 4:3 display PCs in the country, we also adopt 16:9 (H:V) display panel to the larger machine.
Then, how about the resolution (1600x900 pixel) etc? Is that a kind of trouble in pouring the SUGAR XO to that machine?
Thanks to cairo display size shouldn't be a problem, I've tested on up to 1920x1200 display without any problems Hummingbird 16:34, 24 April 2007 (EDT)
Mouse as IP Phone: Fusion of mouse and VoIP phone
Due to the peculiar aspect of IT Korea, quite a few children already have their own mobile phones. So, we attached IP phone as a mouse, based on the design of current commercial Mouse IP phones in markets. See engaget as a sample.
