I worked out two templates, on for tagging some [[Template:Pending|<tt><nowiki>{{Pending|notes}}</nowiki></tt>]] (which I took the liberty to splash in the page [[Educational activity guidelines]]). Feel free to remove it or [[Template talk:Pending|comment]] on it. The {{Pending|reminder}} color is a bit harsh ;) |

The other template (currently in the [[Template:Sandbox|<tt>Sandbox</tt>]]—possibly to be named <tt><nowiki>{{Task | blah | blah}}</nowiki></tt>) is to allow for a more structured way to organize Tasks as mentioned in [[Participate]]. More whacky stuff can be done on the template, like automatic categories combining the category of a task and its time unit—ie: a specific category for Programming tasks that take days—but that may be pushing the envelope too far and may actually complicate things. |
|||
Either way, please let me know if you think it's usable (or has potential) so I 'graduate' it from the Sandbox. Cheers, --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 19:37, 31 May 2007 (EDT) |

Leaving the question of replacing the sidebar's [[Learning Learning|Learning parables]] link with a [[Educators|For educators]] link (or somesuch). Do we prefer showing each morning's visitors [[Learning Learning]] or [[Educators]]? I think Educators is already very much better. [[:Category:Content Package July 2007]] |

that are ''weird''... for starters they don't seem to have the usual stuff that a category has... so I'm assuming that you created them 'manually' (instead of following a ''missing category link'') to fill it up, could that be so? |

Another aspect of ''weirdness'' is that they don't appear in [[Special:Categories]] but do appear in [http://wiki.laptop.org/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=14 the namespace]... |

Educational activity guidelines
Are the EAG Key Design Principles pages ([[EAG Key Design Principles: Adaptability]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Collaboration]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Constructionism]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Iteration and Critique]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Mobility]], and [[EAG Key Design Principles: Transparency]]) targetted for deletion? Or will new content be put in them?
If the intent is to 'zap' them, then I recommend just adding at the top the {{delete}} tag, so that inbound links can be taken care of (either redirected or remved, so that they don't link to empty pages). --Xavi 13:07, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
Manual categories
Hi! I just noticed you created two categories: Category:Content Packages Category:Content Package July 2007 that are weird... for starters they don't seem to have the usual stuff that a category has... so I'm assuming that you created them 'manually' (instead of following a missing category link) to fill it up, could that be so?
Another aspect of weirdness is that they don't appear in Special:Categories but do appear in the namespace...
I think the best solution would be to delete them and re-create them by following a missing link... Confused, --Xavi 17:50, 11 July 2007 (EDT)

skoool
One of Intel's things - good to look into now, given the recent news. http://skoool.com/ Mchua 00:19, 16 July 2007 (EDT)
MoS, Criss
Another thing to look at for the edu comm - Boston's Museum of Science. I recommend contacting peter wong first; one of my Olin profs happens to have a house-mate who also works in the K-12 curriculum dept at the MoS. Mchua 03:08, 17 July 2007 (EDT)

Wikieducator design process
Wayne showed me this in Vancouver. this picture is a nice way of thinking about getting educators involved... ask me for an explanation if it's overly cryptic :) Mchua 03:45, 17 July 2007 (EDT)
exelearning.org
http://exelearning.org/ - The eXe project is developing a freely available Open Source authoring application to assist teachers and academics in the publishing of web content without the need to become proficient in HTML or XML markup. eXe can export content as self-contained web pages or as SCORM 1.2 or IMS Content Packages. You should ask Wayne to introduce us to Jim, who made eXe. Mchua 03:46, 17 July 2007 (EDT)

Added some stuff to the XO Manifesto - not quite sure what you're looking for, though. What's the intended audience/usage? Mchua 08:00, 23 July 2007 (EDT)
summer of content proposals

Library reviews
The STEM kids were more excited about testing than packaging, so we tested instead... I need to make a better process for reviews, but if you check out the Review squad page and the ones linked to it, there's a whole chaos of notes (will clean up tonight when I'm back at the office, after we finish packaging whatever.) Just wanted to let you know so you/sj/xavi didn't have a heart attack at the number of random new edits/accounts... they're really reviews. Mchua 15:51, 26 July 2007 (EDT)
mm, TV!
http://www.beelinetv.com/ - most if not all are free as in price, but not free as in open-licensed. May be worth talking to some of them and asking whether they'd like to be. Mchua 18:46, 26 July 2007 (EDT)

Still around these latitudes? I'll be more than glad to meet with you! :) Specially after my (forced) black-out from OLPC (I'm coming back to life)
BTW, how did the wedding go? Hope you had time for some wine-tasting... :) Xavi 20:55, 14 January 2008 (EST)

My name is Curlonda Simms, I'm a grad student in Organizational Communications And I saw your story on 60 Min utes. There are so many poor kids here in the US that don't have computers too. It would be wonderful if you launched in the U.S. too. At $200 a computer this would help build the capital for your overseas projects. I am probably overidealistic but this would be a great item for Oprah's favorite things. I would at least like join your blog. my email is curlondasimms@aol.com.
Getting pictures off the XO with sanity
Did you at some point have a guide for how to get pictures off your XO (for non-technical people), or know what I'm babbling about here? The Community Jam Boston folks want to post pictures, but people are struggling with how to get them out of their laptops... Mchua 16:59, 7 May 2008 (EDT)
