Welcome, Wayne!

Green and white machine.jpg

Welcome to the One Laptop per Child wiki. Please make yourself at home; read through the Table of Contents and FAQ, and take a look around. If you need a general wiki-tutorial, Wikieducator has some excellent ones.

Things to check out:

I'd suggest that you talk to Xavi; he's the most active translator that I know. You should also ping Mel; she is definitely excited about having Chinese translators. The Simplified Chinese translator listed on the main page is Scott Zhu. And, of course, feel free to hit my talk page.--Nikki 18:20, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

Hi there!

Welcome!

OlpcProject.png

Welcome, Wayne! Nikki told me about you. The two of us (Nikki and I) also hang out on IRC - my nick is mchua, and I am often around #olpc-content.

Nikki mentioned you were interested in doing Mandarin translation - as she suggested, talk to Xavi and also see the Translating/HowTo page.

A small translation project that would be a good place to start is the Curriculum Jam Taipei page - the Jam is next week, so translation work would be starting now and tapering off in 2 weeks, after updates from the Jam have died down. Let me know if you're interested.

A few more cool things to look at:

Check your preferences and be sure you verify your email address and turn on email notification if you'd like it -- you can find out when your talk page, or any page on your watchlist, is modified. You may want to upload a photo or information about yourself to your userpage (see Lauren's and Xavi's pages for good examples).

If you have a particular interest or project in mind, go ahead and start it! Feel free to leave me a note on my talk page if you have further questions, need help finding your way around, have a cool idea for a project, or just want to chat. You can also call, text, or email me anytime; contact information is on my user page.

Glad to have you here!

-Mel

Got your message, sweet.

Thanks for the offer of translating help (and glad to see you finally made it onto the wiki!) Nikki should be able to fill you in on most things, but feel free to ping me if you have any questions... I'm in Taipei for the next week or so, so we might be getting a few things that need translation out of Mandarin at some point. ;) But welcome to the crew! Mchua 11:55, 28 July 2007 (EDT)

dictionary translation

Wayne - have a job for you if you'd like it (or can help us find people to do it). Zdenek is looking for translators to help with the dictionary that's going to go out on all the laptops. User:ZdenekBroz/OLPC-Dictionary Mchua 10:06, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

Got your message - that would be awesome, if you could find people to pitch in on the Chinese dictionary entries. Mchua 00:23, 19 August 2007 (EDT)
Hurrah! Great to hear - thanks, Wayne! Mchua 00:32, 27 August 2007 (EDT)
Thanks - be sure to ping ZdenekBroz when you're done as he's coordinating the dictionary. Thanks for all your help! Mchua 18:32, 9 September 2007 (EDT)

Translations update

There's a big translation effort underway for first release - see Pootle for more details. Mchua 09:09, 30 October 2007 (EDT)
